How Big of a Garage Do I Need?

Your new garage is a big investment and it’s going to be a permeant fixture on your property for decades to come. Getting everything right is key. Wondering, “How big of a garage do I need?” is a common question – and our garage size guide was made to answer it! Since the size of the garage you need depends on how much you need to store, we’ve paired the most common storage requirements with the garage that best fits them:

Single Vehicle and Bonus Storage

Medium sized garage on residential property

Our popular White River series garage is the perfect size to keep a vehicle out of the elements and provide some great supplemental storage. While the length of the garage differs somewhat, this is a great choice to bring ample storage with a small footprint. Plus, these garages almost always come with a loft to provide watertight storage space for boxes of extra stuff.

Average Garage Sizes:  12’X24’, 14’X32’, 14’X40’

Number of Garage Doors: One

Two Vehicles and Bonus Storage for a Home Office

This next model in our garage size guide is easily among our most popular choices. Double-wide garages such as this provide room for two vehicles, which most families need. In addition, the full-size loft can either be used for ample secure storage or a home office or workstation. If your house doesn’t come with a garage, this is a great option to more than make up for it.

Average Garage Sizes:  24’X24’, 24’X30’, 24’X36’

Number of Garage Doors: One or Two

A Small Fleet of Vehicles and Bonus Storage

Whether you need storage for several business trucks or you want a place to work and store your classic cars, a double-wide garage isn’t always big enough. That’s why the next tier of garages offers wider dimensions and more equipment doors. Garages in this size will either come with a full or partial loft, which will often be used for storage as the garage bay below is likely to be occupied. This tier of garages also provides more varied design options – styles like traditional, monitor, and gambrel are available.

Average Garage Sizes:  38’X40’, 24’X40’

Number of Garage Doors: Three or Four
